Encountering the "Unbolted" message on your card reader or terminal signifies a dual challenge of disrupted internet connectivity and device linkages. In this article, we'll address this issue and guide you through the steps to resolve it.

A Quick Guide to Resolving 'Unbolted' Status


Step 1: Site Network Outage:

When the **"Unbolted" **status emerges, it could be an outcome of a broader network outage. In such a scenario, the recommended response is to advise the merchant to patiently await the eventual restoration of network services. Acknowledging and navigating these temporary disruptions form a crucial aspect of optimizing operational continuity.


Step 2: Reader Connectivity Issue:


An "Unbolted" reader connectivity problem. To address this, propose a resolution by initiating a reset via simultaneous pressing of the "#" and yellow buttons for a span of 3 to 5 seconds.


If post-reset, the reader does not transition back to its normal Bolted status within approximately a minute, several potential culprits might be involved:


  • Hardware: Inspect the physical components of the card reader for any issues that may be affecting its seamless operation.
  • Connection Points: Ensure stable connections across various junctures to facilitate uninterrupted performance.
  • Cables: Evaluate cable integrity and connections to rule out disruptions.
  • Connected Switch (if applicable): In more intricate setups involving switches, verify their functionality and integration.
  • Re-establishing Reader Connectivity: After successfully reestablishing reader connectivity and confirming its online status, shift focus to another pivotal facet – the printer.


Check the status bar on the New Order Screen for “Printer Disconnected” in yellow.


If Yes:

  • Tap and hold down for 3-5 seconds to reset the status.
  • Test Print.


If No:

  • The printer status displayed should be “Printer Connected” in green, meaning everything is connected.
